Job Summary

The ARC seeks to hire a highly competent, experienced, and dynamic individual for the following positions at Vegetable, Industrial, and Medicinal Plants (ARC-VIMP), Roodeplaat, Pretoria.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Contribute to ongoing research efforts on DNA marker technologies, including molecular breeding, to help assist breeding programs. 
• Designs and performs molecular breeding research experiments in collaboration with breeders to assist diverse breeding initiatives. 
• Keeps the division up to date on new breakthroughs in DNA marker technology by analyzing new publications and research reports. 
• Compiles and contributes to internal and external progress reports. 
• Captures, analyzes, and interprets data. 
• Contributes to the creation of IP and PBR.  supervises and mentors postgraduate students, research technicians, and assistants. 
• Understand how to manage coworkers and mentees. 
• Disseminates technology through peer-reviewed scholarly papers, popular media, and so on. 
• Compliance with HR regulations and procedures. 
• Ensures compliance with the SHE/OHS rules and procedures

Requirements

• MSc in Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Genomics, Plant Breeding, or Genetics. 
• Strong knowledge and experience in molecular biology and plant molecular markers. 
• Experience with appropriate genetic data analysis tools. 
• Accurate data collection and attention to detail. 
• Management abilities include research, project planning, and time management. 
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, as well as connection with clients, other scientists, and support staff. 
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. 
• Understanding of health and safety rules and procedures.
